Wild Boar is a red meat, darker than traditional Pork, with a lower cholesterol (55mg per 100g) and fat (5.2g per 100g) content and higher in protein (26.1g per 100g) than Beef, Lamb, Pork and Chicken.

About Wild Boar

A omnivorous gregarious mammal native to Central Europe, the Mediterranean region and much of Asia. This wild ancestor of the domestic pig is common in France but became extinct in Britain and Ireland by the 17th century. In recent years the Wild Boar has re-established its self in some areas of Britain having successfully escaped from Boar farms. Adult Boars weigh 70kg - 100kg and their lower tusks can grow up to 8 - 9 inches and protrude approximately 4 inches from the mouth. They forage from dusk to dawn looking for grass, nuts, berry's, roots, tubers, insects and small reptiles and have even been known to take small Deer and Lambs.
